Lavender is also often used as an insect repellent. Simply crush some lavender leaves and sprinkle them in and around your home.

Lavender grows best in moderately dry, well-drained soil. Plant it in full sun or partial shade.

Lavender grows best in climates with cool summers and mild winters. Grow lavender in well-drained soil, free of weeds. Add compost to the planting bed or look for soil labeled "organic."

Lavender needs water. In dry weather, water your lavender every 4 to 5 days; in rainy weather, water it every 7 to 10 days. If the soil feels dry, soak it.

Lavender needs feed. Feed it about once per month during the growing season with a balanced organic fertilizer.

Orchids are popular houseplants and make great gifts. Orchids can be grown in containers or outdoor in pots. They require sufficient sunlight and constant moisture.

Mint

Botanical Name: Mentha

There are hundreds of mint plants to choose from, but by far the most common is spearmint. Mint’s fragrance is unmistakable, and it's very popular in herbal products.  The flowers appear early in the spring and last for weeks. The bulbs grow 4-5 inches tall and up to 3 inches wide. They prefer rich, moist soil and grow best in partial shade or in a sunny spot with morning sun and afternoon shade.

African Gardenia

Botanical Name: Mitriostigma axillare

The African Gardenia (Mitraostigma axillare) is a vigorous, evergreen, woody climber growing to 15 feet. It is grown for its large, funnel-shaped, white flowers, which bloom throughout the year.
