Recipe for Kids - Ham and Egg Cones

Recipe - Cooking with kids not only involves watching them cook, but also being part of the family as they clean, play with toys and prepare dinner. It's a great way to break the tension between kids and adults, teaching children self-control and respect while also giving adults a respite from busy days at work.

It is important to remember that cooking is not about commands or rules. It is a game of conversations and shared interests. If you put the right things in place, you can teach your kids how to cook (and maybe mix up some delicious recipes).

About Ham and Egg Cones

Shaped like hand-rolled sushi, these scrambled egg, ham and alfalfa wraps are easy to eat and taste great.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 10g butter
  • 1 Helga's wrap, quartered
  • 20g (1/3 cup) alfalfa sprouts
  • 4 slices ham

Step 1

Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Whisk eggs and water in a bowl. Melt butter in pan until foaming. Add the egg mixture and cook, without stirring, for 20 seconds. Use a flat-edged wooden spoon to push mixture from one side of the pan to the other. Repeat every 10 seconds until the egg mixture is three-quarters cooked. Remove from heat.

Step 2

Divide the alfalfa sprouts among the wrap pieces. Top each with a slice of ham and one-quarter of the egg. Roll to form a cone. Wrap the base of each

Cooking is a delightful venture for kids. I think it's a wonderful opportunity to get to know kids better. Kids don't often get the chance to be creative or go off and do something on their own. Cooking allows them to get side-by-side with adults and to show us what they're capable of.

The whole family laughs and has fun together. This wouldn't be true if it wasn't for cooking. So, why not get started with cooking with kids today? You'll be happy you did.
